Low energy dusk to dawn lamps have in built sensors to detect the amount of ambiant light. When the light level falls below a pre-determined level the lamps will come on automatically.
They are ideal for use in lanterns and best practive is to combine withthe use of a timer so that the light will come on say between 4pm-midnight depending upon the light level.
