Information about Solar Powered lights

A solar powered light is a light fitting with a battery which is charged via a solar panel. The solar panel is usually built into the light fitting but some fittings also inclue the panel on a lead that can be mounted separately to point towards the southern sky to maximise the sunlight used to charge the battery.

Solar powered lights require sunlight to charge their batteries. The further north you go the lower the amount of sunlight you will be able to capture. How long the light will operate will depend upon the capacity of the battery, the size of the solar panel, the length of the day and the position and amount of direct sunlight the panel recieves. Most of these lights will work perfectly well for areas with normal traffic; but in areas with high traffic such that the lamps are in continious use it will probably be better to use a mains powered light.
