Information about ST64 Squirrel Cage Lamps or Edison Bulbs
The ST64 lamps are based upon the original Edison carbon filament lamps with a pip on the top. This shape of bulbs was used in squirrel caged lamps. The original squirrel caged lamps had a large number of parallel filiaments arranged in a cylinder. These lamps became very popular for their lovely decorative appearance and with the invention of LED filiaments it has allowed the effect to be re-created and a new lease of life given to the design.
The new led versions of these lamps have retained the original shape with a blunted pip but modern technology has allowed the light bulb designers a free hand to develop the lamps in ways that were vever possible in the past. They are available with lots of tints and colours, the filaments have evolved and there is a choice if straight and spiral, long and short etc etc.
